Welcome
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and let me tell you about Repousse'.
This metalworking technique has been used since 400 B.C. The Greeks applied this process to metals of gold, silver and pewter by taking the metal and forcing it forward to create an image. One of the most famous Repousse' technique works of art is the Statute of Liberty in New York. Today we are able to use a light weigh aluminum metal to create works of art. The technique of Repousse' is using both sides of the metal to get a 3-D image.
The glass for each plate is handmade at a company in Pennsylvania that started in 1923. Glass is made from sand, soda ash and limestone. Combining these three materials together and adding heat at a high temperature creates sheets of glass. The sheets are then cut into different shapes. The shapes of glass are then laid over molds and heated at a very high temperature using furnaces. When the glass gets hot, it will slump into the mold to create its shape. This process will take 4-5 weeks.
